Intercultural Dialogue Digital Training is Starting!

Along with a series of cultural projects going on, activities are in place to support Yunus Emre Institute to strengthen in various areas. One of these is the Intercultural Dialogue Digital Trainings which will be organized primarily for the Yunus Emre Institute headquarters in Ankara and cultural centres across Europe. The trainings will start as a pilot programme towards more than 400 staff of the Institute and will then be expanded to reach global staff in 2021.

The focus of the training will be around collaborative project development and management; fundraising, communication; monitoring and evaluation. As another outstanding feature these trainings will help Institute staff, whose main role is to manage Turkey’s cultural diplomacy in many countries, to strengthen and further develop their knowledge and skills to carry intercultural dialogue in the core of their work. Participants will also get the chance to develop intercultural dialogue projects and develop communication strategies to expand the reach of these projects to wider audience.

Intercultural Dialogue is at the center of the training. In line with the Intercultural Dialogue, there are topics of project development and management, fundraising, communication, monitoring and evaluation in the training. The main aim of the training is to help Institute staff, whose main role is to manage Turkey’s cultural diplomacy in many countries, to strengthen and further develop their knowledge and skills to carry intercultural dialogue in the core of their work. Institute’s staff will also get the chance to develop their skills on project development and management, fundraising, communication, monitoring and evaluation. Participants will also get the chance to develop intercultural dialogue projects and develop communication strategies to expand the reach of these projects to wider audience.

In this regard, training is designed under three main units:

  • Intercultural Dialogue
  • Project Cycle Management
  • Communication and Networking

The training, which started on Monday, September 14, 2020, will continue until the end of November 2020. In the training, which consists of synchronous and asynchronous sessions, the participants are also given mentoring support by experts. The opening of the training program was held with the participation of Prof. Dr Şeref Ateş, Institute President, and the employees of the Institute in Europe. Prof. Ateş, referring to the importance of the activities carried out under the EU-Turkey of Intercultural Dialogue Project which has been carried out for two year, stated that this training will also make a great contribution to the digitalization studies of Yunus Emre Institute.

The opening course of the 12-week online training was held by Dr. Carla Figueira from Goldsmiths College, University of London. Having previously met with Yunus Emre Institute in London and gave trainings, Dr. Figueira made a presentation on Intercultural Dialogue and Cultural Diplomacy and evaluated these two concepts.
